Welcome new members and thank you for joining us in our efforts to help support the Children at Mooseheart and the Elderly at Moosehaven.

We are finalizing our plans for the 7th Annual Shrimp Feast to be held on Saturday, September 18th from 2 - 6 PM.  The tickets are available in the social quarters and can be purchased for $15.00 before the event.  If you wait until the actual day of the event, the price of the ticket will be $17.50.  So come down and get your tickets early.  There is more information on this event on the website and on flyers throughout the lodge.  Or you can call the social quarters for information.

We are working hard to keep this chapter active with various events but we need your help.  Please come to a meeting and let us know some of your thoughts on what you would like to see happen.  If you can’t make a meeting, you can always call me at the lodge and leave a message or contact one of the other board of officers and talk with them.  Or you can send an email to me  - just make sure you have the subject line as Moose Ideas or it may be overlooked.  You can also send an email to the chapter at "Contact Us" page on this website.  We welcome all suggestions and new ideas.

The chapter and the Lodge are doing well on the food and clothing drive.  Wendy and George Barboza have delivered food and clothing each month to places within the County that are in need.  These places are very grateful when Wendy and her father deliver the items and appreciate our support.  If you have any suggestions on other ways that we can support our local community, please let us know.

If you have not heard yet, there is a special program going on from Moose International in conjunction with our theme this year - "THE TIME IS NOW".  If you sponsor two candidates into the chapter during the chapter year of May to April, your dues will be paid by Moose International for the following year.  That’s right - you won’t have to pay your dues for the next year, or for any consecutive year you sponsor two candidates.  So let’s work on getting at least two candidates per year so you dues are paid.

If you did not hear, Hannah Hoover received her Green Cap medallion at the convention in Richmond in July.  This award is given to the Jr. Graduate Regent the following year she has served as Senior Regent and the chapter made the Award of Achievement.  So the next time you see Hannah, congratulate her on a job well done while she was Senior Regent.  The coworkers and officers of this chapter would like to send a special congratulations to Doreen Wallace from the Manassas Chapter for being appointed as the Deputy Grand Regent for this year.  This chapter, for one, is very proud to have her as our Deputy Grand Regent and will support her in any way that we can.  Start thinking now about joining us and Doreen at the next convention in January to show our support and assistance where needed.  Let one of your officers know if you would like to join us so that plans can be finalized and reservations for rooms can be made.  This will also be the time to celebrate all of those co-workers who will be eligible to receive the Academy of Friendship degree.  Unfortunately, the names of those co-workers eligible for this degree will not be notified until November time frame.

The Academy of Friendship degree is obtained in one of two ways:

  • First way, be a chairman of a committee, hold a money function event of your choice, and sponsor two candidates for enrollment during the chapter year.
  • Second way, if you are not a chairman of a committee, you must sponsor five candidates for enrollment during the chapter year.

It’s that easy - but the only remaining requirement is that the Chapter must receive the Award of Achievement.  That is given after the end of the chapter year by Mooseheart if all requirements have been met by your board of officers.  One way for you, the coworker, to make sure that these requirements are being met is to come to a meeting and join in on the fun.  We meet the 2nd and 4th Monday’s of each month at 7 PM where we discuss the various things that are being planned – like dinners, raffles, community service work and much more.

Sponsoring new members is another important factor of receiving this award each year.  So it is up to you to talk "Moose" to your family and friends to peak their interest in joining our fraternity.  Having them come down and join in the fun at one of our events is always a good way to show them what we do and what we are about.

Fraternally,
Linda Kaye Hunter
Senior Regent
