Centerville Women of the MooseMerry Christmas...Happy New Year...Happy Holidays!

The WOTM had another great December.  We held two children’s Christmas parties this year.  One for the Easter Seals children which we have already reported on and our annual children’s Breakfast with Santa.  This year we also reached out to children in the community who are unfortunate and thanks to Patricia Stevens, we had approximately 30 children who had a wonderful day with Santa in the person of Charlie Brown.  We would also like to thank Mrs. Claus for making another trip from the North Pole to be with the children.  These two parties definitely got everyone into the holiday spirit!  We would also like to thank Nancy Petty who purchased all of the wonderful gifts for the children, Rob Anderson for being that “special Elf” in donating some extra gifts for the kids to make sure everyone had a gift that day.  And a very special thank you to the Fairfax City Fire Department for taking the time out of their busy schedule to deliver Mr. and Mrs. Claus.  And where would we be without all of the wonderful people who showed up to held out with the event, especially four members of the Fairfax Count and Fairfax City Fire and Rescue teams.  We had a few people help for the first time this year – they were very impressed and enjoyed the day both with cooking and watching the children have such a wonderful time.

We all would like to wish Belinda Bigelow a speedy recovery from her shoulder surgery she had in December.  Belinda is very much missed as she always volunteers to take orders and serve dinner on Fridays nights.  We are managing without her but cannot wait for her return.

In case you did not hear, the fees for joining the Moose will be reduced from January 1 to April 30 as the application fee are being waived by Moose International.  Therefore, it will only cost a new member $30 to join the Women of the Moose.  This is a great time to have friends and family join our organization.  The WOTM is at its highest membership ever.  We now have 241 WOTM members. Great job everyone.  Let’s see if we can go even higher.

Coming up is our annual Virginia State Convention to be held in Norfork in January.  This is a time when we can learn new facts, figures and rules and meet other members from the other chapters around Virginia.  Because of this, the WOTM will NOT be preparing dinner on the second Friday in January.  We will be OUT of the kitchen!

Also on the horizon is the nominations and elections for the WOTM Board of Officers for the 2012-2013 year.  Please consider putting your name in for one of these positions.  Please contact any of the current Board members if you have any questions.  We will be holding three nomination committee meetings in February and March.  There will also be information available at a later day of the responsibilities for each position to look over to see which one you would like to take on.   More information will be forthcoming next month.

Also on the agenda for next year is the Children’s Easter Party which will be held on March 31 from 1-3 PM.  Please mark your calendar for this event.  Volunteers are also welcome.  More information will be available in future postings.

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year.

Santa Arrives at the Centreville Moose LodgeOn Saturday December 10, 2011, Santa made his usual stop at the Centreville Moose Lodge in Fairfax City, Virginia to visit our good girls and boys.  As if Santa was getting ready to visit the children at their own house, the kids were on there best behavior.  The excitement and anticipation was in the air.  When would old St. Nick arrive?  What was that noise?  As if on cue upon the finish of breakfast, a fire truck from Fairfax City came roaring up with Santa and Mrs. Clause.  With a Ho, Ho, Ho, Santa had arrived at the lodge.  With Santa sat in his place of honor, with Mrs. Clause by his side, the children lined up to talk to Santa.  One by one, each child told Santa their wishes.  And, each child received an early Christmas gift too. The Centreville Moose Lodge would like to thank the Fairfax City Fire Department for escorting Santa and Mrs. Clause to the lodge.  It brought so much joy to the children that morning to see Santa ride in on the fire truck.  Thank you to the Women of the Moose for putting this whole thing on each year.  To Santa's helpers Nancy Petty, Slick, Ernie Phillips and Mark Smith thanks for all your generous help.

Main Street Child Development CenterAs always, the Centreville Moose Lodge members outdid its self. The Angel Tree was a huge success.  We collected more gifts for our local children in need. The items were delivered to Main Street Child Development Center on Sideburn Rd.  The Staff and I wish to thank each and every one of you for your outpouring of love for our local children to make a child's wish come true for Christmas.  The wounded Veterans wish to thank you for the clothes we donated.  It is the little things in life that can make the most difference.  Even as little as a pair of socks can change a person forever.  Thanks so much for the support of a worthy cause.  God Bless.
