One of the basic precepts of the Loyal Order of Moose is that "no institution that labors for self and self alone can remain great and mighty, and serve posterity."
We are in the final stages of putting together the Kids Halloween Party for this year. It is looking to be a good party for the kids. Please see the lodge postings and the website for more information on this event. The party will be on Saturday October 30, 2010.
Please disregard the date mistake in the current newsletter! This event will happen on Saturday, October 30, 2010!

Welcome new members and thank you for joining us in our efforts to help support the Children at Mooseheart and the Elderly at Moosehaven.
We are finalizing our plans for the 7th Annual Shrimp Feast to be held on Saturday, September 18th from 2 - 6 PM. The tickets are available in the social quarters and can be purchased for $15.00 before the event. If you wait until the actual day of the event, the price of the ticket will be $17.50. So come down and get your tickets early. There is more information on this event on the website and on flyers throughout the lodge. Or you can call the social quarters for information.
We are working hard to keep this chapter active with various events but we need your help. Please come to a meeting and let us know some of your thoughts on what you would like to see happen. If you can’t make a meeting, you can always call me at the lodge and leave a message or contact one of the other board of officers and talk with them. Or you can send an email to me - just make sure you have the subject line as Moose Ideas or it may be overlooked. You can also send an email to the chapter at "Contact Us" page on this website. We welcome all suggestions and new ideas.
The chapter and the Lodge are doing well on the food and clothing drive. Wendy and George Barboza have delivered food and clothing each month to places within the County that are in need. These places are very grateful when Wendy and her father deliver the items and appreciate our support. If you have any suggestions on other ways that we can support our local community, please let us know.
If you have not heard yet, there is a special program going on from Moose International in conjunction with our theme this year - "THE TIME IS NOW". If you sponsor two candidates into the chapter during the chapter year of May to April, your dues will be paid by Moose International for the following year. That’s right - you won’t have to pay your dues for the next year, or for any consecutive year you sponsor two candidates. So let’s work on getting at least two candidates per year so you dues are paid.
If you did not hear, Hannah Hoover received her Green Cap medallion at the convention in Richmond in July. This award is given to the Jr. Graduate Regent the following year she has served as Senior Regent and the chapter made the Award of Achievement. So the next time you see Hannah, congratulate her on a job well done while she was Senior Regent. The coworkers and officers of this chapter would like to send a special congratulations to Doreen Wallace from the Manassas Chapter for being appointed as the Deputy Grand Regent for this year. This chapter, for one, is very proud to have her as our Deputy Grand Regent and will support her in any way that we can. Start thinking now about joining us and Doreen at the next convention in January to show our support and assistance where needed. Let one of your officers know if you would like to join us so that plans can be finalized and reservations for rooms can be made. This will also be the time to celebrate all of those co-workers who will be eligible to receive the Academy of Friendship degree. Unfortunately, the names of those co-workers eligible for this degree will not be notified until November time frame.
The Academy of Friendship degree is obtained in one of two ways:
First way, be a chairman of a committee, hold a money function event of your choice, and sponsor two candidates for enrollment during the chapter year.
Second way, if you are not a chairman of a committee, you must sponsor five candidates for enrollment during the chapter year.
It’s that easy - but the only remaining requirement is that the Chapter must receive the Award of Achievement. That is given after the end of the chapter year by Mooseheart if all requirements have been met by your board of officers. One way for you, the coworker, to make sure that these requirements are being met is to come to a meeting and join in on the fun. We meet the 2nd and 4th Monday’s of each month at 7 PM where we discuss the various things that are being planned – like dinners, raffles, community service work and much more.
Sponsoring new members is another important factor of receiving this award each year. So it is up to you to talk "Moose" to your family and friends to peak their interest in joining our fraternity. Having them come down and join in the fun at one of our events is always a good way to show them what we do and what we are about.
Fraternally, Linda Kaye Hunter Senior Regent
Green Cap Degree

The women of Centreville Lodge 1674 received an honor that has been a long time in coming. On July 18, Mary Amsden along with Hannah Hoover stood before the gathered crowd to receive the Green Cap Degree. We haven’t had that honor for several years and it just shows that we work hard together, support one another and have grown as a chapter.
Out of 94 Chapters in Virginia, we were one of 29 that made honors! It’s an honor in which we all should be proud. And, in January, Linda Kaye Hunter and Hannah Hoover will receive the Academy of Friendship Degree. We are making great strides as a chapter and we couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone. Thank you for putting us back on the Moose Map!

Our Daily Bread

Update April 21, 2010: We donated 130.15 lbs of food to Our Daily Bread today.
On November 19, 2009, Our Daily Bread celebrated 25 years of serving the Fairfax County area. This is a great group that helps families and individuals in the Fairfax area to be come self-sufficient. With out our help and others like us, Our Daily Bread would not be able to help so many families in need.
We chose Our Daily Bread for the good work they do each day. Our Daily Bread has many outreach programs. They even manage to make food deliveries to those in need during the week and on the weekends. They are currently in need of certain items. To see a list of most needed items please click here!
We recently made another donation of non-perishable food items. On April 1, 2010, we donated 99.7 pounds of food worth $158.52 dollars. We want to thank our very generous members for their continued support of our food donation program. We would also like to thank Wendy Barboza for her help in dropping off the food items. Wendy your help is really appreciated!
Warm Weather Clothing Needed

Update April 21, 2010: We donated 98 articles of clothing to Western Fairfax Christian Ministries today.
Thank you for making our clothing donation drives such a success. Our continued aid to other Fairfax City and Fairfax County community agencies is really appreciated. This last quarter we donated clothing to two area non profits groups. The generosity of our membership is amazing. You are helping to clothe and feed area residents who would otherwise go without. We are switching gears again this spring. We ask that you start bringing in your gently used warm weather items for donation.
We are continuing to help "Yesterdays Rose" in Fairfax City and "Western Fairfax Christian Ministries" of Fairfax County with our clothing donations. On March 24, 2010, we donated two hundred eighty items to the Western Fairfax Christian Ministries. Remember, for all clothing and food donations at the lodge, we still give Free Texas Hold'em tournament free chip cards. The chip cards will get you extra chips during regular season Free Hold'em tournaments.
In talking with Yesterdays Rose this morning, they tell us they are in short supply of socks. We don't usually ask our members to donate new items. If you are so inclined please pick up a set at the store and bring it in to the lodge. Your donation would be greatly appreciated. We are just passing on their needs. We are proud to help support them in their efforts. Please continue to bring in your gently used items. You can count on your items going to those in need.
Some times we forget to say one important thing, thank you for helping make our community a better place with your donations!
