The dealer deals everyone two cards. You look down and you have pocket tens. You bet to raise the pot. You have two callers. On the flop comes two ten's and a queen of hearts. You bet to raise the pot. You get one caller. The next card is a five of hearts. You know you have this, heck you have four of a kind. You call "All in". You get one caller. The river card is a queen of diamonds. In your excitement you flip over your quad tens. Your opponent flips over quad queens. You just suffered a bad beat!
Everyone has had a bad beat at one time or another. If you play cards long enough you understand this fact.
Here at the Centreville Moose Lodge, we are adding another reason to play in our Free Texas Hold'em poker tournaments. We are adding a new "Bad Beat Pool". This Bad Beat pool will pay out cash to tables where our definition of a bad beat happens. This means that everyone at a table where a Bad Beat happens will win! This Bad Beat pool is free to all players at every Free Texas Hold'em poker tournament.
To qualify for a Bad Beat, you must have one of the following hands:
Four of a kind over Four of a kind
Straight flush over Four of a kind
Straight flush over Straight Flush
The hand must go to showdown and both pocket cards in hand must play. A four of a kind must have pocket pair underneath in hand.
The pay out for a Bad Beat:
The Loosing hand wins 40%
The Winning hand wins 30%
All other players at the table split 20% and the remaining amount of 10% goes back into the pool.
The pool starts with one hundred dollars minimum. The pot will increase with every tournament. Players at no time contribute to this pool. For a tournament size of:
Less than or equal to 20 players: $2.50
Less than or equal to 30 players: $5.00
Less than or equal to 40 players: $7.50
Greater than 40 players: $10.00
All pay outs will be paid in five days. All players at table must sign an affidavit. Cheating may result in suspension from Moose and possible additional penalties.
