Clean Fairfax Road Clean UpOn the morning of Saturday, November 19, 2011, the Adopt-a-spot committee continued our year long effort to maintain, clean and beautify the road in front of our lodge.  I would like to take a moment to thank all that helped in this effort all year long.  The list of individuals is too long to thank them all one by one.  So, please take this sincere thanks for all you have done for the City of Fairfax and this lodge.

This last road clean-up started on Saturday at around 9:00 am.  An Anita’s breakfast was enjoyed by all that showed up for the clean-up.  It is truly amazing how much trash we pick up each time.  This clean-up was a much smaller effort than in other clean up’s.  We just picked up trash.  I want to thank Tom Rockett for giving us all a good laugh while we cleaning up.  Tom wore a black and white stripped Oakland Raiders sweatshirt.  Thus, perpetuating the stereotype that all Oakland Raiders fans in prison garb are usually found cleaning the sides of roads.  The only thing missing from our road crew was a guard with a shotgun.

We are already making plans for our spring clean-up.  For the spring clean-up, we will be cleaning the curbs from the lodge to Oakton Park apartments, removing the dead trees and tree limbs on the side of the road, cleaning the lodge parking lot, and hauling it all to the dump.  Tom Hoover has volunteered to provide his dump truck again for this effort.  The next road clean-up is scheduled for some time in February 2012.  If there is snow still on the ground, we will move the clean-up to the next month.  We hope to see you down at the lodge this coming spring!  Again, thanks for all you do for the lodge.  We know that many of you help so many committees.  If you’re interested in joining a new committee, please see a board member or Mike Cogburn for selecting a group/committee that needs your help!
