Please join us for our version of Free Texas Hold’em every Tuesday at 7pm, Friday at 8pm, and Sunday at 2pm. We battle for 14 weeks for a chance to win a HD TV and other great prizes.
It has been two months since I took office. I have to thank all the members who have supported me and the lodge with their hard work. There is no doubt that times for our lodge have been tough in the recent past, but, it is my opinion that things are getting better. With more and more people stepping up to help, things are changing for the good of the lodge.
We are at the start of the summer season. Summer time usually means a slow down in business and patronage around the lodge. But, the good work for our Lodge board could not be busier. We just put up on the website an advertisement for a Social Quarters Club Manager. We are also posting the job on www.monster.com’s website too. We hope to be interviewing lots of qualified candidates in the future. It should be said that all current employees are encouraged to apply for the position.
Our lodge committees are busy too. We are starting up the Adopt-a-spot program again. We will be cleaning the street in front of the lodge in the coming months. I encourage you to help if you have the time. Please see the website for future dates. Luther has been heading up the membership committee and has done a great job. He could use your help in signing up new members. We have a new lodge auditing committee. Bobby Powel, Ron Apostolakis, and Mark Smith have agreed to be on this committee. Thanks for volunteering for this committee.
The Legion committee has been busy doing fund raisers and has donated money for this year’s 4th of July celebration. They also donated money toward the purchase of a new high definition television for the Social Quarters. The money will be added to what has already been collected by Steve Petty’s poker tournaments.
A special thanks to Ron Apostolakis for chairing our Government Relations committee. Ron has been doing a great job navigating the bureaucracy and red tape of the Fairfax City Government for our lodge. Ron has made great strides in acquiring our stuck city tax exemption status. He will need your help in the coming months with a show of force at a city government meeting. Please look for fliers and a posting on the website for coming dates. Thanks again Ron for all your hard work!
Thanks to Dan Sullivan, Mary Amsden, and Hannah Hoover for attending Moose International’s 2 day Hands On Technical Training class in Front Royal this last month. The two day instructor led class taught by Moose International teaches how to use the lodge’s accounting and membership software.
To everyone helping around the lodge, keep up the great work. It is the hard work that you do that makes this place a great place.
With the 4th of July just around the corner, thanks to the Moose Legion committee for hosting and putting on the 4th of July celebration. I look forward to seeing everyone down at the lodge for this event.
