We are off to a great start so far this year. Many thanks to Barbara Miskimmin, Virginia McClung, Mary Mohr, Helene Fenimore and Hannah Hoover for volunteering at our first flea market. We now know who the negotiators are in the chapter. With their great help, this was a great success. A special thanks goes to Hannah, Terry Maur and Luther Hodges for taking the left over items to Fairfax Christian Ministries as a donation from the Centreville Lodge.
The North Carolina BBQ dinner was also very successful. Even though some of our helpers were handicapped (poison ivy and foot surgery) it went well and everyone enjoyed the food.
I would like to encourage all of the women of the chapter that can, help out with ideas to make this a very successful year. You can contact anyone on the board or come to a meeting on the 2nd and 4th Monday’s of the month. So put those thinking caps on and lets hear some of those creative thoughts flowing. If you have an idea and can’t make it to a meeting, you can always email me the information and I will present it to the chapter.
Due to the summer vacations - we will not be doing a dinner on the 2nd Friday in July or August. We will resume our dinners in September. And speaking of September - mark your calendars for the 3rd Saturday of September (the 18th) as we will be having our annual shrimp feast. At this time, we are not sure of the price but we will post it on the website and in the next calendar. There will be an early bird price and a door price as in the past but the price will depend on how much the shrimp is going to cost. So keep your eyes open for more information and make sure to mark your calendar.
We have a special event planned for October 23rd - Recognition Dinner for our co-workers. We will be awarding several co-workers for their hard work and dedication to our chapter. There will be more information available as we get closer to the wonderful event but make sure to mark your calendars for this event.
The chapter and officers would like to wish our Junior Regent, Barbara Miskimmin, a speedy recovery from her foot surgery she had in June. Hope all went well with the surgery.
Tommy Moose is on the loose. The men and women of the Centreville Lodge donated two dozen Tommy Moose to the Centreville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department in June to help the children who have been traumatized with family, fire, or accidents. This is a program that has been going on for years and we have supported wholehearted during the last several years. The fire department was very grateful for these stuffed animals and will let us know when they are in need for more.
There are several of us that will be going to the annual Convention in Richmond in July. We will be able to get the latest and greatest of any changes and what our theme will be for this year. If you get a chance, come down and join us. If you need details, contact Mary Amsden, recorder, and she can send you the information about hotels and times for the convention. It only costs $10.00 to register for this event and is worthwhile to learn new things and share things with other chapters.
If you know of anyone that is sick, has surgery or needs assistance from the chapter, please let us know. We often hear about things well after the fact and would like to hear sooner so we can send a card, flowers or go by and visit with the co-worker in need. You can send the information to the chapter via the contact us page on this site.
Hoping all a fun filled safe summer and visit us when you get the chance. Fraternally, Linda Kaye Hunter Senior Regent
